Seasiders assistant manger Andy Crump admitted Felixstowe did not produce their usual high quality of football but at this state of the season it is about grinding out results.

Zak Brown's well-taken goal on the hour was enough to see off fourth placed Brentwood and see the Seasiders leapfrog Lowestoft to go top of the Isthmian League North.

Straight-talking Crump pointed to the prize and with six games to go in the regular season picking up points was the priority.

"It was a really good three points," Crump told the club website: "We can talk about the quality of football and the display from us but at the moment it is about results."

Crump revealed how the players had an honest conversation during the break and made the much needed improvement for the second half.

"They (Brentwood) were better of the two sides in the first 45 minutes and we didn't really get on top of the game

"The lads took some responsibility at half-time and some strong words were spoken and we got on top in the second half..

"Although we weren't at our free flowing best it was a good goal that won it in the end.

"Our midfield won the battle in the second half and out back four defended very well against a good front two."

The Seasiders went top for the first time since October and have clawed back the lead Lowestoft established coming into the second half of the campaign.

Stuart Boardley and his team won the February Manager of the Month award, helped in part by a run of 11 games without defeat, including 10 wins, and six clean sheets.

"It is close and the league table can change in just one day," said Crump.

The win was a good start to what is a huge couple of weeks for the club with a top of the table clash at Lowestoft on Saturday, followed by a Suffolk Premier Cup semi-final against Leiston at Ipswich Wanderers' Huber Doucy lane ground on Tuesday, March 26.

"We need to get outlives right for Lowest because they don't come much tougher than that."
