By Derek Davis 21st Aug 2020

The scores of Ipswich Town fans from the Shotley peninsula finally have some football to look forward to after the Blues were pitted against newly-relegated Wigan Athletic in the season opener at Portman Road on September 12.

But it is possible the fixture will not be fulfilled if managerless Wigan can not find a new buyer by the end of the month.

The Latics were put into administration on July 1 by then owner Au Yeung Wai Kay, just weeks after buying them, with administrators setting a deadline of August 31 to sell the club or they may not be able to start the season.

Even if the game goes ahead fans will not be allowed in the ground under current government guidelines for the top level of English football.

While non-league clubs can allow a reduced number of fans into their ground as from Saturday, clubs above national league level will have to wait until October 1, unless restrictions are lifted.

Ironically Ipswich supporters can go and watch the a Town XI play in friendly at Needham Market on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Town have confirmed they will be live streaming the friendlies against West Ham tomorrow, and Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

meanwhile, Felixstowe & Walton United are welcoming fans back from tomorrow. Read full story here...
