Three good goals, a clean sheet and the perfect execution of the game plan left Felixstowe & Walton United boss Stuart Boardley beaming after the Seasiders' 3-0 home win over leaders Lowestoft.

Josh Mayhew set the Seasiders on their way with a fine finish as he beat Luke Holt, son of Norwich City's Gary Holt, in a one on one.

Skipper Billy Holland made it two after a goalmouth scramble, he also headed against a post in the second half.

Mayhew also had a good effort cleared off the line by Trawlermen's skipper Travis Cole in the second half, while substitute Zak Brown could have netted within 30 seconds of going on but the ball bobbled in a one on one and Holt was relieved to see it go over the bar.

The cherry on top came deep into time added on when Callum Harrison emphatically finished and Boardley's game plan came together perfectly.

"That was as good a controlled performance we have had this season," said Boardley. "Yes, we have had more flamboyant attacking performances but the way we controlled the game, our game management and the execution of the game plan is as good as anything all season."

Keeping a clean sheet, and particular preventing Lowestoft striker from scoring for just the second time in 17 games, underlined the fine all round defensive display, with centre half Jack Ainsley picked out as man of the match, while new on loan keeper Josh Blunkell making a couple of decent saves on his home debut.

Given the quality of the opposition with Lowestoft top of the Isthmian North table, still two points clear of Flixstowe with two games in hand, made the manner of the win extra pleasing, even if their manager Jamie Godbold was shown a straight red card after his colourful use of he English language and adjectives describing referee Daniel Baines.

"They are top opposition," added Boardley. "Jamie and Gus have a very good side with a lot of good attacking individuals but we were able to stifle that and created a lot of good chances ourselves.

"We were clinical in the first half not quite so much second half but we deserved the third. We limited a very good side to very few chances".

The win comes after an inconsistent run over the the latter part of 2023 and Boardley is hoping they can push on from this win in the league, and Suffolk Premier Cup semi-final in March.

Boardley said: "I'm just delighted for the lads because it has been a tough eight weeks there is no hiding that.

"The togetherness and the way we executed the game plan I could not ask any more from them.

"Let's hope this is the beginning of a new phase.

"We have worked extremely hard in training to put things right and the performance today was a culmination of a couple of weeks hard work."
