A Felixstowe pub boss and councillor is appealing for people to donate laptops, iPads or tablets to be donated to local schoolchildren to help them with learning from home.

Melissa Allen, who co-owns the Mariners in Trimley and is am east Suffolk district councillor, has already managed to distribute seven electronic devices to a Trimley school and has another nine to collect one the weekend but is hoping more people will come forward.

Cllr Allen has also asked for other schools on the Felixstowe peninsula to get in touch to let her know what they need so the devices can be distributed evenly in the own and surrounding villages.

"I saw on national TV a single mum with five children using one smart phone to do home schooling," said Cllr Allen. "Each child was allowed the phone for one hour a day to do their homework. I felt for them and wanted to help our local families.

"I looked and found an old ipad, a tablet and a laptop which were stuck at the back of a cupboard. I thought if I had one to give to help local families, then maybe other people would have some, so I put a post out on the pub's facebook page and immediately got interest."

If anyone has any laptops on smart phones to donate, get in touch with Melissa via the pub's facebook page or email [email protected] and collection will be arranged.

She added: "Lets make a difference to our local families who need our support through these times."
