National pub chain Wetherspoons will no longer be building new premises in Felixstowe.

Plans to put up a pub in Hamilton Road, on land next to Great Eastern Square, have been shelved, it has been confirmed.

Instead the land is being sold via estate agents Savills.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "Wetherspoon can confirm that its site in Felixstowe has been put up for sale.

"Wetherspoon will no longer be developing a pub on the site.

"This is a commercial decision taken by the company."

A planning application was given the green light in 2020 to regenerate the old Central Surgery site with councillors describing the plans as the "best scheme" to date.

A firkin full of names suggested for planned Felixstowe pubs.
