Treasure Chest Books in Felixstowe reducing hours and could close completely after Christmas

A long standing Felixstowe bookshop is reducing its opening hours and considering to close completely after Christmas.

Martin Bott, owner of Treasure Chest Bookshop, in Cobbold Road, Felixstowe, which has been operating in the town for the past 40 years, has blamed the Conservative government's Covid policy, the loss of footfall to the town centre and online shopping as reasons for fearing the future.

Mr Bott said in a statement: "In the light of Boris deciding to impose Plan B, with people being expected to work from home, and in view of the already significant drop in footfall since masks were re-introduced last week, we are having to review whether the shop will remain open.

"We will take a final decision this weekend, but it is likely that, as a minimum, we will be severely reducing our shop opening days from next week.

"The Government is effectively closing the high street but without any financial compensation and we will have to respond accordingly. Plan B is complete nonsense and shows once again that the government and civil service does not care about business or people's livelihoods - they will still get paid come what may."

Treasure Chest will open tomorrow, Saturday, December 11, between 10am and 4.30pm, and will make a decision on the future opening times after that.

If Treasure Chest Books does close it will follow a number of other shops in the town centre closing its doors. More here...
