The Mystery of Felixstowe Docker explored

Many locals would have heard about the Felixstowe Docker, they have their own Facebook page with more than 3,000 followers worldwide, they have many hundreds of followers on other social media platforms and their website has had more than 4,600,000 visitors - but who runs it and who is it?

The Felixstowe Docker regularly posts blogs about the goings on at the Port of Felixstowe and other ports around the World.

At present, they have around 8,000 blogs on their website, which equates to an average of two blogs per day, over an an eight-year period and they have around 35,000 visitors per month, which is impressive.

It comes as no surprise that we have many ship spotting fanatics living in Felixstowe, with Britain's largest port on our doorsteps. There is Shipping TV that has accumulated more than six million viewers on their youtube channel, could they be the Felixstowe Docker?

Or could it be one of the many other locals who are commonly seen with their cameras facing the Estuary? Or could it even be someone running a local facebook page, Alan Boyle of Everything Felixstowe perhaps? Or they could even be your next-door neighbour. Nub news looked at finding out.

There are many thousands of dockers working in Felixstowe, key to keeping the country well stocked and moving forward. In fact, the majority of Felixstowe residents have a connection to the port, whether directly or indirectly. The Port of Felixstowe is the largest employer in the town and more than 40% of young people coming out of education in Felixstowe will end up at the port at some point in their lives.

The Port of Felixstowe is the UK's largest container sea port and handles more than four million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) and welcomes around 3,000 ships a year. The port benefits from having some of the deepest waters close to the sea than any other port in Europe.

The Felixstowe Docker started way back in 2012 and in the past eight years the editor has never stuck his/her head above the parapet.

We started following them a few years ago and we think that it is part of the beauty of the page- they do it purely to keep dockers from around the world informed as to what is going on around us all, not to find local infamy.

We contacted the Docker for comment and he told us: "I run the Felixstowe Docker because I love the feeling of being able to provide a safe place where dockers from around the world (and especially from Felixstowe) can congregate, get advice from other dockers, and share their experiences with colleagues, my identity therefore is not important and I would like to remain anonymous."

Although we may never find out who runs the page, it does leave a lot to the imagination and you never know, one day his, or her identify may be revealed.
