New data has revealed how many people in Felixstowe and its neighbouring villages have died due to Covid-19 related illness.

Figures compiled by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show a total of 21 people died of coronavirus in Felixstowe, Walton, Trimley and Kirton between March 1 and May 31 and were registered by June 6 2020.

A breakdown shows there were nine fatalities in Felixstowe East, five in the Felixstowe Seafront ward, three from Felixstowe West, and four from Kirton and the Trimleys combined.

Statistics for surrounding areas show 11 people on the Shotley peninsula died, eight in Harwich, 10 in the Nacton and Bixley area and eight in Woodbridge.

Nationally, almost 250,000 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have survived.

A map published by the ONS today pinpoints the areas where the deaths were recorded, but does not show the precise location.

To protect confidentiality, a small number of deaths have been reallocated between neighbouring areas.and the figures exclude death of non-residents.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor (ICD-10 codes U07.1 and U07.2).

The ONS map can be found here and you can drag your pointer to the area you wish to locate.
