New tenants are being sought for a popular community pub in Felixstowe, after the current landlord decided not to renew his lease.

Although interest has been shown in taking over The Falcon Inn, on the High Road, Walton, owners Admiral Taverns are still searching for the right people.

The 150-year-old pub, which was refurbished three years ago, is used mainly by the community, port workers, and visitors going to and from the beach and town centre.

A pool table was recently put back into the main bar, and their are drinking areas inside the pub, in the back garden and benches out the front.

New tenants would need a £12,500 buy in, which covers security deposit, working capital and stock, while the annual rent is set at £28,500 per annum.

An Admiral Tavern spokeswoman said: "Admiral is looking for experienced operators and passionate licensees to take on our community pub, the Falcon Inn at Felixstowe.

"We've received a number of enquiries for the pub and are keen to hear from anyone else interested in the role."

With three bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom above the Falcon, with its own separate private entrance, the pub is ideally situated in busy area.

Like many pubs, the Falcon Inn was hit hard by the pandemic but it is envisaged the new tenants would operate the pub all day, every day going forward.

The current landlord decided at the end of July not to renew the lease, but has stayed open with current times starting at 3pm on Wednesday and Thursday, then from noon on Friday and Saturdays.

He said: "After a lot of soul searching I have to use my head and not my heart so I have decided not to renew my lease.

"I feel that I have sailed it as far as I can and am now moored up awaiting the new crew.

"Until then the team here, hope you will support us through to the end.

"It has been a good four years with many up and downs but we have a lovely pub here ready for its next adventure.

"Remember folks your local only stays a local and not a Tesco if you support It."
