UPDATED: Felixstowe motorists caught in perfect storm of traffic hold ups after oil spillage and roadworks

Hundreds of Felixstowe motorist were caught in a nightmare of related traffic jams when trying to get home today.

The chaos started at around 1.45pm when a 200-litre oil spill closed the A14 for several more hours, after the spillage at the Dock Spur roundabout, and was not expected to clear until past 8pm.

Although a hold up on the High Street due to roadworks was cleared away, drivers found more delays throughout the town centre.

The Port of Felixstowe road was jammed solid, as were Grange Road, Gulpher Road and Garrison Lane.

Police advised mortoristss to exit the A14 at the J60 Dockspur Roundabout and take the 2nd exit onto the A154 Candlet Road.

Continue until the roundabout with Grove Road and then take the 2nd exit.

Continue on the A154 until the signalised junction with High Road West.

At the junction, turn right and continue along High Road West, High Street and High Road.

After Trimley, take the 2nd exit at the roundabout and re-join the A14 westbound at J59.
