Work to transform a children's play area in Langer Park, Felixstowe will soon get underway.

The refurbishment has been made possible by East Suffolk Council in partnership with Felixstowe Town Council, with the design for the play area influenced by pupils at Langer Primary Academy.

Designed by Wicksteed Play Ltd, the new look play area will be suitable for toddlers and juniors and will feature a zipline, basket swing, cradle swings, slides, sensory play panels and multi play units.

Three sculptures will also be installed as part of the Lost Creek Trail. The sculptures were created by Graeme Mitcheson working with children from Langer Primary Academy.

Cllr Katie Graham, East Suffolk Council's cabinet member for Communities, Leisure and Tourism, said: "This work will transform the play area into an attractive, fun and modern facility and allow families to enjoy the park even more. The refurbishment of the play area is part of a wider programme of improvements to Langer Park, creating a welcoming and relaxing space for everyone to enjoy."

Cllr Seamus Bennett, Mayor of Felixstowe said: "Felixstowe Town Council is delighted to be supporting East Suffolk Council in upgrading this popular and much-loved green space. We are excited to see the stone sculptures, carved by a local artist following input from local primary school children, installed as part of the Lost Creek Play Trail, funded by the Town Council."

Work is expected to start shortly, and completion is expected in August.

The redevelopment of the play area is part of a wider project to improve Langer Park, creating a welcoming, green space that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors. Previous improvements include the installation of bespoke oak benches which were handmade by furniture designer Tim Germain, using oak felled locally on a needs-must basis at an area of mature woodland by Greenways Countryside Project volunteers.

Other works include replacing outdated signage, installing information boards, clearing overgrown areas and reinstating the toilet block, which were all highlighted as priorities during a public consultation in 2020.
