A Felixstowe man has denied inflicting a violent physical and sexual assault on a child.

Josh Marczell, of Leeward Court, Felixstowe denied causing grievous bodily harm on the child and assault of a child under 13 by penetration.

A jury at Ipswich Crown Court heard that when the child was taken to hospital, they were found to have suffered "fairly horrific" injuries.

Marczell told police was not responsible for injuries and the child had fallen down the stairs while he was watching a horror movie.

Before the start of the trial, which is expected to take two weeks, jurors were warned they would be shown explicit images of the child's injuries.
