An annual grants scheme has reopened for funding with over £20,000 available to support community projects in East Suffolk.

The Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape Amenity and Accessibility Fund was set up with construction of a Dry Fuel Store at Sizewell B power station in 2012.

Over the past 12 years the fund has supported more than 100 projects with over £300,000 distributed to communities in East Suffolk.

The Fund aims to improve the environment and natural character of the area by awarding grants to projects that sustainably improve the amenity and accessibility of the area, both in terms of physical barriers such as making sites wheelchair friendly and removing steps, to engaging with new and underrepresented groups in the surrounding areas.

Previous projects funded include the renovation of historic Butley Ferry, accessible ramps at RSPB Hollesley Marshes, a wildlife area at Hollesley School, and providing accessible activities for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Individuals as well as organisations such as schools, businesses and community groups are

encouraged to apply, particularly those projects that represent the widest range of society with equality of opportunities to access the funds.

The Amenity & Accessibility Fund is being managed by EDF, East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council in consultation with the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape who administers the fund.

The closing date for applications is 22nd March 2024. You can find out more about the Amenity & Accessibility Fund at www.coastandheaths-NL.org.uk
