The Landguard Nature Reserve at Felixstowe was designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) in 1973 and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special Wildlife Discovery Day on Sunday 13 August.

Held next to the Manor Terrace car park from 10am to 3pm, this FREE summer event is suitable for children of all ages with a host of drop-in events and activities.

Explore the amazing willow creatures trail, play giant games, and help the Landguard Ranger build a new giant bug house for the reserve's pond area. Beach Bonkers will have their fab mini-beach for wildlife detectives plus beachcombed treasures to touch (note until 1pm).

Go bird spotting with volunteers from the Landguard Bird Observatory, paint and get crafty with Suffolk Outdoor Learning, meet the Felixstowe Coastal Patrol and Rescue, and get buzzy with a unique honeybee observation hive. You can even get a wildlife face painting from

JoJos - note small charge of around £4.00 for this activity. Children are also encouraged to come in their best wildlife fancy dress with prizes to be won.

Leonie Washington, Landguard Nature Reserve Ranger said "We are all set to celebrate the 50th birthday of our beautiful reserve and its rich fauna and flora. Bring the whole family to our special Wildlife Discovery Day which is designed to be both fun and educational. This is a great way for children to learn more about this Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) at the southern tip of Suffolk's stunning coastline".
