Felixstowe cafe offers free meals to schoolchildren during half term

A cafe in Felixstowe has responded to the government's failure to provide school meal vouchers during the half term by providing pupils free lunches.

Owners of Crescent Cafe are offering a a half term special on a free lunch for all children in primary school years when an adult buys a one main meal.

The move comes after local MP Therese Coffey was among more than 300 Conservative MPs who refused to back a motion to extend the voucher system during half term and over the Christmas period for millions of young children who face going hungry when school are shut.

Nub News reported yesterday how thousands of people had campaigned for the extension, including Manchester Unite footballer Marcus Ashford, but the plea was ignored by MPs, who can claim free lunches and enjoy subsided meals at the Houses of Parliament.

Crescent Cafe will be serving a dish of the day which will come with free cup of squash or water for youngsters.

The meals on offer for youngsters are:

Tuesday : Homemade Tomato pasta with ciabatta garlic slice.

Wednesday: Sausage and Mash with Peas and Homemade GravyThursday: 3oz Burger, chips and Beans

Friday: Mini Cod fillet and Chips

These meals with be served between 12-2 from October 27 -30 and the cafe will take bookings to reserve a table due to limited sitting in the cafe.
