The former Landguard Fort volunteer, passed away in November 2018 and one of those grandchildren, Mrs Tardy, said: "After his passing he left a significant amount of money to cancer research. I couldn't wish for anything more than to have his name on a pub in Felixstowe where he was well loved and very much missed."
Another nod to the town's history was made by Eva Harper who suggested the pub be called 'The Felixstowe Fury, after the sea plane that perished in 1919, while famous Felixstowe residents including Wallace Simpson and Sir John Mills were listed
Given its location Jan Kilburn feels either 'The Surgery' or The Waiting Room, would be fitting, with the latter a popular choice among those on social media too.
Other popular suggestions included: 'The Central', 'End of the Line', 'Central Station', 'The Witching Hour' 'Great Eastern', 'The Old Central', 'Doctor's Remedy' and 'Station House'.
Wetherpoon has welcomed the suggested names and confirmed it will choose one with a local connection.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "We are delighted that planning permission has been granted for Wetherspoon to open a pub in Felixstowe.
"We strive to name our pubs after local connections and will take on board the suggestions from readers of nub.news."
