A pub with no name has finally been given permission to be built.

Planners issued permission on Friday for JD Wetherspoon to put up a new two-storey public house, complete with beer garden and terrace, on the old Central Surgery site in Felixstowe's Hamilton Road.

The long running saga started in 2014 and previous applications have included a five-storey building, with apartments proposed above the pub. The former surgery was demolished in 2016 and Wetherspoon's came back with more plans until this, the seventh, won approval.

A statement read: "The Economic Development team welcomes investment that enhances and diversifies the thriving visitor economy in east Suffolk, and for the above reasons, supports application DC/20/2448/FUL which supports the economic growth ambitions of East Suffolk."

The Felixstowe Society welcomed the proposal and said: "(the society) considers that it is the best scheme submitted on the site to date. The Society hopes for a speedy implementation to regenerate this important site."

Felixstowe Town Council also backed the plan for the pub, opposite the Orwell Hotel and close to the towns railway station and Great Eastern Square.

West Sussex based architects K D Paine & Associates Ltd designed the two-storey pub which has yet to be formally named:
