A well known national pizza chain could create up to 20 jobs if they are allowed to set up in an empty Felixstowe town centre shop.

Papa Johns (GB) have applied for permission to move into a new outlet in Hamilton Road, Felixstowe.

Felixstowe town councillors have backed the proposal and have recommended East Suffolk planners approve the scheme.

The takeaway firm are looking to move into the former premises of Ponden Home Interiors, that closed following the winter lockdown last year.

Papa John's wants to change the use of the premises to a food takeaway and plans to update the exterior with a new shop front.

Pegasus Group, for Papa John's, said in a statement: "It is proposed that the hot food takeaway and pizza delivery use would operate from 11am to 11pm Sundays to Thursdays and 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

"It is considered that the proposed opening hours are consistent with the unit's town centre location and surrounding uses."
