Hungry Hack reviews quintessential full English at the Boardwalk Cafe Bar on Felixstowe pier

There is something quintessentially English about a pier in a seaside resort town, and Felixstowe's epitomises the very best.

Alongside from the arcade and games, is the Boardwalk Cafe and Bar themed like a cruise ship with its awnings, decking and ship's rails on the outside, and an elegant, spacious interior.

Even in the choppiest of winter seas, this upper deck has no movement and therefore no queasiness as you are welcomed aboard and it was not long before the imagination took me on my own little voyage.

What better way to enjoy good coffee and breakfast than gazing out to sea and watch a ship sail serenely past, no doubt on its way to Scandinavia given its markings.

This was my very own 'An Affair To Remember', only instead of Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant, it starred sausage and bacon, with a supporting cast of a perfectly poached egg, hash brown, Portobello mushroom, toast, beans and a tomato the size of a cricket ball.

After ordering at the bar and settling into a corner table so I could make use of the large glass windows out to the North Sea, the food arrived quickly, hot and fresh.

There was a distinctive Suffolk taste to the meat, complemented by the county's Stokes Sauces, to contribute to an enjoyable breakfast, which including an Americano, was all for just under £12.

Breakfast is served until 11.30am, and the morning menu also offers a full vegetarian option, breakfast brioche buns with various fillings, or a choice of poached eggs, smoked salmon, smashed avocado on toast.

The service was attentive without being obtrusive and even before the lunch time crowd, The Boardwalk was being well used with a mix of small groups, and singletons like myself enjoying the views when not tapping into their phones while soaking in the pleasant ambience - there was even one lady reading an actual book.

You can often tell a lot about a vessel, or establishment, by their toilets/washroom, (or heads to nautical types), and these were immaculately clean, with quality Dyson hand dryers and impressive looking porthole shaped mirrors, adding to the maritime theme.

Opened in 2018, The Boardwalk is an all day and evening venue, with entertainment including live music, soul nights and discos for the discerning.

This is an all-seasons venue to visit, as inviting on the cold winer days as it is in the glorious summer, windy Autumn and spring with stunning sunsets to enjoy on those relaxing evenings.

The Boardwalk Cafe and Bar is also a Meet Up Mondays participant, when people can get to know others over free cuppa, some biscuits and chat.
