Stuart Boardley was delighted to see lessons have been learned after a fabulous five-star performance from his table-topping Felixstowe side.

The Seasiders boss showered praise on his side, just as they had swamped the New Salamis 5-0 with a hat-trick from Ollie Canfer coming off the bench with Callum Harrison bagging a brace.

Although it was an impressive display all round, Boardley was delighted with Canfer's attitude and deadly finishing after going on in the 35th minute for Zak Brown who injured a hip.

"Players are always miffed if they don't start," said Boardley. "But Ollie is grown up and sensible enough to get on with the task as he always does. He knows what he has to do and he did exactly as we wanted him to do. He has given me problem ahead of ur next game now, which is great.

"He didn't have too much of the ball but he has that finish and gets in the right places at the right time."

Both sets of players, staff and supporters immaculately observed a minute's silence for the late Queen Elizabeth and sang God Save The King.

There was also a sweet moment late in the second half when the dejected New Salamis keeper was consoled by a group of young Seasiders fans who shared a bag of sweets from the club shop.

Harrison got the Seasiders on the new Globex sponsored score-board after Lamell Howell was brought down in the box by Jandir Jose, who was booked and then sent off mid way through the first half for a second yellow, this time for a dangerous tackle on Howell.

Although keeper Eman Olajide saved the spot kick, Harrison followed up and finished well with just six minutes on the clock.

Canfer scored with his first touch to make it two, and deep into injury time before the break he forced a save from the keeper but Harrison was on hand, unmarked to fire into the empty goal.

Felixstowe were equally deadly in the second half with Canfer heading in a fourth and completed his hat-trick by getting on the end of a flowing move.

"It was really professional performance," summed up Boardley.

"We started really well, as we did Tuesday night, but we spoke about not allowing team back in the game and today we were in full control for the whole 90 minutes.

"I'm really pleased with the general level of the performance and how ruthless we were."

Unbeaten Felixstowe went top of the fledging Isthmian Premier North division campaign after carving up the perviously unbeaten British Cypriot inspired New Salamis and look a formidable force this season with their free flowing attacking football.

Boardley believes lessons learnt from last season has made the Seasiders more ruthless in front of goal, abut also less forgiving in allowing the opposition to get back into games.

He said: "Last season we created plenty of chances but did not always finish and also allowed teams too much of the game and hey could nick one.

"I know it is early but it looks like we are learning way is needed."

Goals from all over the pitch helps and another clean sheet was well deserved, with much-travelled professional striker Derek Asamoah kept under wraps, and Callum Robinson saving well low down from one of his rare chances.

Boardley added: "All the front lads played well. Zak was unlucky to to get a goal before he went off injured. Ollie and Callum have goals in them with their quality. But is not just our strikers, we have goals all over the pitch.

"Whether that is from set pieces, or midfield runners, which is really pleasing."

But he also warned that the period where passing became loose is not repeated.

"It is important our levels stay as high as it was for more than an hour," he said.

With AFC Sudbury having to play a cup replay on Tuesday, their clash with Felixstowe has been postponed, but Boardley is hoping the game can be played on Saturday instead as he wants to keep the good momentum going.

He added: "It is very early but it is good to be top of the league, I prefer us to be there than anywhere else."
