The Seasiders strength in depth is paying off for Stuart Boardley as his side stepped up in positive fashion to keep up with the division pace-setters.

Boardley forgave a lapse as his Seasiders put on dominant second half showing at the AGL Arena to beat Witham Town 4-1.

After a frustrating first half, Felixstowe came out with a bang. in the second and romped home in front of a 636 crown to take their unbeaten home run to eight games.

Noel Aitkens put them ahead three minutes after the break. Jost Hitter fired in a free kick screamer, and Joe Whight wrapped up the points with two confidently taken penalties.

Boss Boardley revealed how his half time team talk prompted the change of fortune.

"We started off quite sloppy," admitted Boardley, "but we got to grips with the game after 25 minutes or so although we were not clinical enough and our counter press was poor.

"We asked the players to be more positive and we got a goal early and from there we were able to show our quality.

"Witham are a decent side with a good manager who knows how to set up his side and they made it difficult, particularly in that first 20 minutes."

The Seasiders remain in fifth spot, within the play off places, and Boardley is confident his side can handle brutal winter and are not just fair weather winners.

He added: "We have had an indifferent spell but it is great to get players back and we have squad going in the right direction at the right time.

"Probably two years ago we were a squad that was not stern enough, strong enough, big enough but you can see now we have a group assembled this year that can do both sides of the game.

"They can play but when it gets tough they can dig in and fight.

"That is what I liked in this game, we had leaders and when it got tough we were able to turn the tide and we took control."

While former Colchester United forward Andre Hasanally impressed with his pace through the middle he was unable to find a finish and Sam Ford appears to still be finding his best form,

Felixstowe's strength down the flanks proved the difference and Witham's struggled to clear and ended up giving away key free kicks.

Boardley said: "We have good players out wide and we like to get behind teams and deliver balls into the box. We probably have not scored enough from crosses this season so i was pleased that we got good delivery and players into the box and that is what outdone Witham.

"Josh has hit another screamer today and it is good that I have queue of players who want to take the free kicks, but Josh has got another. while Joe is always calm and scored two good pens."

After making a couple of very good saves in the early stages, Callum Robinson was unlucky not to keep a clean sheet when a mistake high up the field allowed Witham to grab a goal back through substitute Jamahl Godward.

Although Boardley was in generous mood and added: "I was disappointed with their goal. No one seems to score good goals against us, we don't get opened up but that was from our own doing but I'm not going to be too harsh on them because that was a good win."
