As content as Felixstowe boss Stuart Boardley was with his side's three points, three goals and clean sheet over Suffolk rivals Bury Town, he feels they can be even better.

Goals from Sam Ford, Callum Harrison and Josh Hitter, along with a couple of top saves from keeper Callum Robinson and solid defending throughout, made the win look more comfortable than the actuality.

Visitors Bury had lots of the ball and hit the crossbar through Cemal Ramadan, but could not break down the solid Seasiders, who in turn pounced decisively up front.

"We did very well," Boardley told Nub News. "Bury got the better of things in the second half when they had a lot of he ball and we stood off them a bit too much but ultimately what won us the game was that 20 minute period in the second half when Bury were on top. We took it in and did not concede and that is what I told the lads after the game

"We shaded it in the fist half and the quality of finishing was superior to theirs. We have fallen foul in previous years of not being good enough in both boxes but today we were excellent in both boxes.":We defended manfully, Callum, has made a couple of saves with Tom and Jack holding us together at the back.

"Then we had Josh, Sam and Call finishing great opportunities when they came their way."

As good as they were, Boardley dismissed suggestions it was an almost perfect performance.

"The lads will tell you 'm very critical. We have very high standards and there is always room for improvement," said Boardley.

"We need to get stronger in terms of fitness but it was really pleasing performance and one we can live with."

Former Arbroath striker Ford got the Seasiders's opener, hit an assist and was virtually unplayable as he led the line in a man of thee Match display.

Boardley has been impressed at 25-year, much travelled Ford's improvement and said: "Sam deserved it because he has worked really hard. Sam was a bit part player last season but he went away in the summer and worked incredibly hard, listened to what we wanted from him and has come back a completely different player.

"He is a real handful and there are not many at the moment I would take over him.

"Sam has always had the ability. It has always been about him finishing a club for him to settle in with and he has done that with Felixstowe."

Felixstowe travel to another big Suffolk rival on Monday when they take on Stowmarket.
