As a response to concerns from local businesses about the impact of Covid-19, East Suffolk Council has agreed to extend its free parking scheme to 13 additional car parks across the district, including two in Felixstowe.

The car parks in Crescent Road and Highfield Road, where it is currently 50p for the first 30 minutes, have been added to the others in the resort that offer an element of free parking.

Did you know? In 2014, the 3,000th edition of the BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, which was first broadcast on 29th January 1942. The guest for the 3,000th show was 95 year old Eric 'Winkle' Brown, the Navy Fleet Air Arm's most decorated pilot and the record holder for the most flight deck landings. He died two years after the broadcast and there is statue of him at Edinburgh airport. Not may people know this, but HMS Beehive at Felixstowe and HMS Ganges in Shotley played a part in the formation of the Fleet Air Arm.

East Suffolk Council is now processing the payment of grants for Felixstowe businesses provided by the government in a response to new national Covid-19 restrictions.

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) is available to businesses that have been required to close in line with new national restrictions which came into force on 5 November. These include non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses.
