A weather warning has been issued to the Felixstowe peninsula fortonight, and for the next three days, as a front dubbed the 'Beast from the East 2' is sweeping in from Scandinavia.

The Met Office has warned the first half of tonight will have further rain, which will give way to outbreaks of sleet and snow from the east later tonight with a strengthening north-easterly wind, as Storm Darcy hits the east of England

On Friday 29 January 2021, Cllr Sharon Harkin laid a wreath to commemorate the 1953 North Sea Floods, which claimed 41 lives locally and over 300 people across English coastal towns and villages.

The Deputy Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Sharon Harkin said, "At this tough and emotional time as we reflect on over 100,000 deaths due to the Covid pandemic, it is still incredibly important to mark the anniversary of another tragedy, 68 years ago on Sunday 31st January 1953, when 41 lives were lost in Felixstowe, including several children.

A freeze on East Suffolk Council's portion of the council tax bill has been agreed by the authority's cabinet, citing the financial challenges many are facing from the Covid-19 pandemic as a key reason.

The authority last week unveiled its first draft budget at its scrutiny committee meeting, in which it proposed to keep the council tax level for 2021/22 at the same level as this year – £171.27 for a Band D property.
