News in Felixstowe

Suffolk's rapid testing centres for people without symptoms of COVID-19 will close by the end of the month in line with the continued roll-out and growing popularity of home testing. So far in Suffolk more than 700,000 home kits have been handed out.

The first community centre to close will be Felixstowe, based in Felixstowe Leisure Centre in Undercliff Road West.

A Felixstowe woman has been handed a suspended jail sentence after admitting threatening to expose their sexual relationship if he did not send her £3,000.

Nichola Chatfield, of Larkhill Way, Felixstowe, had also told the victim she would tell the police he had raped her.

A number of Suffolk schools have completed St Elizabeth Hospice's Dying to Talk programme, which encourages young people to have open conversations about end-of-life and bereavement.

Part of St Elizabeth Hospice's 565 Service, which provides emotional and bereavement support for children, young people and families living with a family member with progressive illness, Dying to Talk is a training programme run by St Elizabeth Hospice which raises standards in conversations about end-of-life and awareness around bereavement and support services available.

A major new report is calling for a root and branch reform of the UK's training system to help businesses access the skills they need to boost productivity – a message backed by Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

The final report from the Workplace Training and Development Commission (WTDC), set up by the British Chambers of Commerce follows an 18-month in-depth study of what businesses want from adult skills training provision in the UK – with direct input from Suffolk Chamber and local businesses from the Felixstowe area.

Tim Passmore continues as Suffolk's Police and Crime Commissioner after securing the 2021 local election with his biggest victory.

Mr Passmore, Conservative, secured 54.7% of the vote in first preference ballots with 112, 139. Labour's Elizabeth Hughes was second with 47,159 votes – 23% of the vote.
