The Battle of Hastings was actually fought on this day in 1066. King Harold II of England was defeated by the invading army of William, duke of Normandy, in the Norman Conquest, establishing Normans as rulers of England and that had a knock effect in the Felixstowe area with land, including Falkenham and Walton,, being given to French noblemen as a reward.
