Two people needed hospital treatment for hypothermia after coming close to drowning in the sea off the Felixstowe coast.

Coastguard crews rescued the duo after reports they had become stuck in mud near the Spa Pavilion and both had swallowed sea water and became extremely cold.

A Felixstowe Coastguard sporran reported: "When we arrived on scene two casualties had got into difficulties in the water opposite the spa pavilion.

"One member of the team was kitted up in a drysuit and made their way into the water to rescue the two casualties.

"Once the rescue was completed casualty care was given as the two casualties had swallowed water and became hypothermic. When the ambulance arrived on scene they were transported to hospital."

The crew had earlier been called out to a person had had fallen off their board, which was then washed away. He was found safe and well and did not require hospital treatment.

In an emergency dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
