In 1709 British sailor Alexander Selkirk is rescued by William Dampier after being marooned on a desert island for five years, his story inspires 'Robinson Crusoe' written by Daniel Defoe, who visited the rivers Stour and Orwell as part of his travels before writing his inspired novel.
