Thousands line Felixstowe seafront for Women's Tour sprint finish

Thousands basked in sunshine as they lined Felixstowe seafront as the winners of the final stage of AJ Bell's Women's Tour swept to the finishing line.

World champion Elisa Balsamo (Valcar-Travel & Service) celebrated her first victory in the rainbow jersey, beating Lorena Wiebes (Team DSM) and Chloe Hosking (Trek-Segafredo) to the line.

Italian Balsamo, aged 23, won the 96 mile, 155km, stage six from Haverhill to Felixstowe, which came down to a bunch sprint in front of an enthusiastic crowd, while Dutch rider Demi Vollering, 24, became the 2021 tour winner.

Spectators were able to enjoy a number of events in the report over the weekend with a park run in the morning, and various other bike rides, children's races and demonstrations.

The tour village was with stalls providing information and activities and live entertainment took place near the finish by pier, n also at the Spa Pavilion and Beach Street.

Felixstowe firefighter Hall Baldwin was among the group of fundraisers that have recent completed the Lands End to John O'Groats charity ride, and who capped off their remarkable few weeks by cycling the haverhill to Felixstowe route ahead of the tour racers.
