Sunday's Breakfast Briefing

Did you know?

Today in 1814 marks the opening of Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight. It was designed by John Kent of Southampton, is Britain's oldest pier and it paved the way for others, from Dunoon on the Firth of Clyde to Falmouth in Cornwall, including those in Shotley, Felixstowe and Harwich.

Today's Peninsula sunrise: 05:09

Today's Peninsula sunset: 20.53

Tide Times:

04:34 3.91m

10:04 0.77m

16:45 3.83m

22:46 0.34m

All good on the Strand

Weather:

A dry and mostly sunny start to the day. Cloud bubbling up during the morning, with warm sunny spells into the afternoon and a faint chance of occasional showers. Bit breezy. Maximum Temperature 24C.

Sunday quotes:

The notion of a pier made solely for the purpose of walking above the water had a tremendous appeal to people, possibly as a metaphor for humanity conquering the sea.

Jennifer Krintz

Joke of the day:

Have you heard about the lemming that jumped off a cliff into the sea?

Apparently it was due to pier pressure.

Thought for the week

Waiting Is a Window

Waiting is a window opening on many landscapes, it is the experience of recovering balance when catapulted from our place, it is to watch a gathering darkness until all light is swallowed up completely without the power to interfere or bring a halt, then to continue our journey in the darkness with our footsteps guided by the illumination of remembered radiance, it is to know courage of a peculiar kind—the courage to demand that light continue to be light even in the surrounding darkness.

To walk in the light while darkness invades, envelops, and surrounds is to wait on the Lord.

This is to know the renewal of strength. This is to walk and faint not.

Jane Gould
