Da Capo Choir are heading to the peak district in May for a joint spring concert with the Bakewell and District Community Choir.

The concert will be held at the Medway Centre, Bakewell at 7pm on Saturday, May 18.

Bakewell choir member Viv Gibbings used to live in Chelmondiston where she was a member of a local choir, Viv kept in contact with Jane Gould, the musical director of Da Capo and is the link between the two choirs.

"Jane was looking for somewhere to do a choir exchange," said Viv, who now lives at Froggatt. "Knowing where I live now and my involvement with BADCC, she suggested this visit and a joint concert. When I brought it up at choir everyone was enthusiastic, so that's how it all came about."

Jane, from Stutton, commented on the 200-mile choral link-up: "I was looking for a similar choir we could do an exchange with and remembered Viv from her time with us here in Suffolk.

"Our choir also includes a number of other musicians who accompany some of our songs we have flutes, a clarinet, a piano accordion and a guitar. We are really looking forward to our visit to Bakewell and if you're going to be in the peak district in May we'll be pleased to see you otherwise watch out for the return visit when the Bakewell choir come to Stutton!"

Leader of the Bakewell choir Lester Simpson, formerly a member of the a cappella folk group Coope, Boyes and Simpson, said: "It's great to be linking up with a fellow choir from Suffolk.

"They'll be singing some of their repertoire and we'll be singing some of ours, with the opportunity for some joint numbers too."
