Streets still relatively quiet as many businesses stay shut

Although more and more business are going back to work, the main roads in Felixstowe still look relatively deserted.

There were not many smaller independents opening, when Nub News did our research as our pictures show, but it was a different story with some national chains operating with social distancing.

None essential shops, like estate agents, are still not permitted to open and that this may be reviewed in early June, depending on infection rates.

Interest in buying and selling property is still significant and one estate agent, Scott Beckett have kept their office in Hamilton Road closed to clients, but continues to try deal with enquiries.

Partner Steve Scott told Nub News: "As a local business we continue to operate as fully as possible serving the good people of Felixstowe.

"Throughout the lockdown period we have had numerous enquiries from both applicants and potential vendors alike and needless to say as soon as we are able to offer a full service whereby we are permitted to meet with vendors and applicants at properties to carry out viewings and valuations we are very keen to do so.

"We are working remotely from home and contactable as we have been since day one of the pandemic by calling the usual office telephone number 01394 338000 to manage existing sales, offer advice on valuations and to answer any questions people may have in relation to properties we have available for sale."

The government roadmap has also outlined Step Three – which will be from no earlier than July 4.

More businesses and premises to open, including potentially those offering personal care such as leisure facilities, public places, and places of worship.

People are to stay alert by:

working from home if you can;

limiting contact with other people;

keeping distance if you go out - two metres apart where possible;

washing your hands regularly;

wearing a face covering when you are in enclosed spaces where it's difficult to be socially distant - for example in some shops and on public transport;

and if you or anyone in your household has symptoms, you all need to self-isolate.
