On This Day

Black Tot Day occurred on this date in 1970. It was the last day of the officially sanctioned rum ration in the Royal Navy that dated back to 1665. It was poured as usual at six bells in the forenoon watch (11.00) after the pipe of 'up spirits'. Some sailors wore black armbands, tots were 'buried at sea' and at HMS Ganges there was a mock funeral procession complete with black coffin and accompanying drummers and piper.

Joke of the day:

A wife finds her husband sipping some rum on the patio, he says, "I love you so much, I have no idea what I would do without you". The wife asks, "Is that you talking, or the rum?"

He replied, "That's me, talking to the rum."

Did you groan? (send us your own favourite joke)
