An offer has been made on the former Royal British Legion club in Felixstowe after it was put up for sale at £1million.

Bolton based Lamb and Swift have been marketing the building and site which make up the 1.56 acre plot. The former Legion building, known as Goyfield House) fronting Mill Lane, in the resort.

The agents describe the plot as a regular shaped flat site, which is prime for development and is screened to both sides by mature trees.

Sealed bids for the property closed at the end of March and prospective buyers were not allowed to see inside the buildings due to safety concerns. Viewing of the property will be given to the successful party to obtain quotes for demolition. No internal viewing will take place as part of the bidding process.

The RBL club was popular in its heyday with around 200 members, but was forced to close due to dwindling numbers and the building fell into disrepair.

Any application for residential homes on the site could prove controversial, however it is a brownfield site and East Suffolk Council will consult on any plans submitted.
