Neighbours of an Adventure Golf course in Felixstowe are not amused at a planning application to destroy the fun activity and build flats.
Family Amusements Ltd have applied for planning permission to replace the crazy golf course on Sea Road with a four-storey building to put up 14 apartments and commercial premises, along with 16 car parking spaces.
Nearby residents are furious at the sheer size of the development and the loss of an amenity popular with tourists and locals alike.
The commercial use is being touted for either a retail outlet, convenient store or a cafe, with three storeys of flats built above.
Objections are already coming in after the application was made to East Suffolk on Friday for the planning permission and he developer could face a number of obstacles.
Although none of the 10 the comments so far, have been uploaded by the planners, residents are understood to be concerned as the size of the building and the impact it will have on the area.
There are also concerns the applicant want to use private land as part of shared access in Arwela Road and a private alleyway at Buregate Road.
Although not in the conservation area, it is adjacent and would have a negative impact, especially to a potential blockage of light.
The applicants argue that the site is commercial in nature, a leisure activity along the clearly defined Sea Road leisure frontage and that would continue.
Holiday accommodation is included to further boost this stock for the resort and tourists uses are maintained at ground floor level in accordance with policy.
They also say that the mix of residential above commercial is well established, the principal windows from adjacent properties would shielded by the building and the form of the building replicates the mansion house style of existing architecture favoured by conservation officers.
The crazy golf course has been feature in Felixstowe for more than 40 years, after getting planning consent in 1977.
Although the site had outline permission to build 15 flats in 1988 that was never followed up.
