Ten new homes in Trimley and Felixstowe have been approved by East Suffolk Council today.

Five will be built on land adjoining Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club to pay for a new cafe, members bar and clubhouse.

Another five have been given permission at Sprites Hall Lane, Trimley St Mary.

Concerns were raised regarding the impact to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, traffic and access issues, and the new one-way system planned for council's public car park near to the access for the new homes.

Councillor Steve Wiles spoke as a ward member and said he was fully in support of the application and there was no representation speaking on behalf of the Town council and no public injectors spoke, although nearly 40 wrote in their objections.

Felixstowe councillor Mike Deacon was a lone voice in objecting to the application at the meeting and voted against, although it was subsequently passed by a majority after being proposed by Cllr Stuart Bird, while Orwell and Villages member Cllr Melissa Allen voted for the Ferry application.

Cllr Allen stepped out of the meeting when the application for five new homes in Trimley came forward as she declared a pecuniary interest due to being a director of Alston, the applicant.

Fellow ward member Richard Kerry voiced his support of the proposal, which already had extant permission for six homes and he asked that developers made good any damage caused to Sprites Hall Lane during construction.
