New style litter bin are being installed in Felixstowe to help encourage people to dispose of their rubbish correctly and reduce litter.
Last year, East Suffolk Council trialled a new style litter bin in Aldeburgh to encourage people to recycle their waste on the go. This trial is now being extended to two new locations in Felixstowe and Southwold.
Once installed, the bins will have compartments for both general waste and recyclable, giving people the opportunity to make the right choice when disposing of their waste.
Tins, cans, plastic bottles, cardboard and paper can all be recycled, and the bins will be clearly labelled to inform people what is allowed in the recycling section to avoid any contamination, which would result in the recyclable waste being rejected.
To ensure accessibility, smaller wheeled bins will still be available.
Cllr James Mallinder, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "Like many parts of the country, East Suffolk has seen an increase in litter, however, there is no excuse for not disposing of waste properly.
"East Suffolk Council is working hard to ensure there are plenty of bins available in our towns and these new bins will give people the option to do the right thing for the environment by recycling their litter on the go, making it even easier for them to keep our towns clean and green, creating environmentally sustainable communities.
"If a public bin is already full, please do the right thing. Either dispose of it in a nearby bin or take it home with you and dispose of in your household bin. Small actions make a big difference, and we must all continue to do our bits to help keep East Suffolk beautiful."
