A man who tried to teach his poodle to read was responsible for our bank Holidays. John Lubbock, the first Baron of Avebury, scientific writer ,banker and politician, drafted the Bank Holiday Bill in 1971 and when it became law, created the first bank holidays. He also studied ants and was convinced dogs could read if taught properly.
