On this day in 1865, Suffolk's Elizabeth Garrett Anderson became the first qualified woman physician in Britain. As well as having a meeting room named after her in Babergh's headquarters at Endeavour House, she is honoured at Ipswich Hospital with the accident and emergency building being called the Garrett Anderson Centre.
