Monday Breakfast Briefing

Did you know?

Felixstowe played a vital role in the defeat of Germany leading to the Victory in Europe: In the weeks leading up to D-Day, naval ships, landing craft, along with their crews were sent to the port of Felixstowe. The reason for this was that the landing crafts would be loaded up with soldier, tanks, jeeps and equipment, which would be landed on the Normandy Beaches. However, Force 'L' did not take part in the initial landing on the beaches. The follow-up force would then land on the beaches and act as the driving force to lead the attack inland and secure vital targets and link up the allied beaches. In this case, the targets for the Commonwealth Forces were Caen and Bayeux.
