A police car was damaged after a man in Felixstowe fled officers following a previous collision with another car.

Police were called to an incident on Manor Terrace near the seafront after a motorist reported a driver of another vehicle, a blue VW Transporter, had reversed and collided with the vehicle he was driving.

Officers swiftly attended the scene and attempted to speak with the driver who failed to stop and hit a police vehicle, causing some damage.

A female officer left their police vehicle and attempted to stop the offending driver from driving off. The vehicle was stopped further down Manor Road by another police vehicle.

A 54 year old man was arrested at the scene for a failing to provide a breath test and a number of associated offences and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

No-one was seriously hurt in the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference 37/53222/20.
