Updated with police welcoming sentence:

A Felixstowe man who attacked a former friend while he was in bed with his partner has been jailed for 10 years and told he must serve at least two thirds of the sentence before being considered for release.

Despite denying the charges, Jamie Lepicq, 44 of Hall Field, Felixstowe was found guilty by a jury of wounding the victim with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after a trial in July and was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court by Judge Judge Martyn Levett, on Friday.

In his summing up Judge Levitt told Lepicg he was also being handed an extended licence period of five years as he presented a significant risk to the public by causing serious injury or death by committing further offences of violence in the future.

The court heard Lepicq had 46 previous convictions, including offences of robbery, and wounding with intent.

The sentence has been welcomed by Det Sgt Jack Briggs, who said: "The sentence passed and the comments made by the Judge in court, against Lepicq take account of the danger that he poses to both the victim and the public.

"It highlights that knife crime is a matter that will be dealt with robustly by the court and has no place here in Suffolk."

During the trial the jury was told how Lepcig, along with another man, had burst int his former partners bedroom in Princes Road, Felixstowe and attacked the man in bed with her.

Lepicq jumped on the bed and stabbed the victim with a 10-inch bladed kitchen knife causing serious injuries. He had then hit him in the face with the hammer causing a fracture to his eye socket and knocking out some of his front teeth during the attack.

The victim also suffered cuts to his head, swelling to his face, a seven centimetre cut to his upper arm and an eight cm cut on his forearm.

Meanwhile, one of the men was wearing a ski mask and told the victim's partner to get on the floor

In addition to being jailed Lepicq was banned from contacting the victim and his partner indefinitely.

The court heard that Lepicq had been in a relationship with the woman who was in bed with the victim on the night of the attack.

The victim and Lepicq had previously been friends and had regularly played pool and socialised at the Owl and Pussycat pub in Felixstowe before allegedly falling out over the woman.
