Port of Felixstowe investigators are looking into the cause of an accident after a 40ft container crushed a lorry cab last night.

Four fire engines and an air ambulance, two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and two Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles rushed to the scene.

The lorry driver was cut out of his cab by Suffolk Fire crews, while he was being attended by a Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) volunteer critical care paramedic who was first on the scene.

The casualty was taken to hospital as a precaution but was discharged last night after a medical check up.

A spokesman for the Port of Felixstowe, said: "We can confirm there was an accident on port late yesterday afternoon.

"The emergency services were called and an HGV driver was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

"A full investigation into the cause of the accident is being undertaken."
