A 39-year-old man described by his mother as 'like wild animal' has been jailed after admitting attacking her and his brother in Felixstowe with a broken bottle, two days after being released from jail at Christmas.
Neil Dugdale, who was effectively homeless at the time of the offences, had pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, assault actual bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker and breaching a restraining order.
The court heard Dugdale has a history of drug abuse had 10 previous convictions for 24 offences.
Recorder Douglas Edwards QC sentenced Dugdale to 16 months' imprisonment, and he will have to serve half of that term in custody before his release on licence. He was also handed a five-year restraining order.
Ipswich Crown Court heard how Dugdale was released on licence from prison on Christmas Eve in 2021, and defied a restraining order to visit his mother's home in Grange Road, Felixstowe.
Dugdale gave his mother a Christmas present before asking for £90 in cash. He later ate a meal with his mother and brother on Christmas Day.
On Boxing Day Dugdale went back to his mother's home and again demanded money which she refused to give him.
Robert Potts prosecuting told the court Dugdale became aggressive and hit his mother across the face with a partially empty bottle of Baileys, causing her a deep laceration above her left eyebrow.
Dugdale then hit his brother in the legs with the bottle, causing injury, before taking two large knives from the kitchen and threatening his mother, although he then took the knives back to the kitchen when she asked him.
Police were called as soon as Dugdale left on his bicycle, taking his mother's bank card and some cash, which was later returned.
Following his arrest Dugdale punched a police officer five times, and so was also charged with attacking an emergency worker.
In her victim impact statement Dugdale's mother described him "like a wild animal" and she did not want him at her home ever again, while the brother said he fears him returning to the home.
