Home care company teams up with Felixstowe medical centre to boost community support for dementia
Home Instead Felixstowe, Ipswich, and Woodbridge is hosting drop-in sessions at The Grove Medical Centre, giving people the chance to learn more about dementia and the support available following a diagnosis, in a bid to support families facing the challenges of the condition.
As a home care company that supports older people in their own homes, many of which live with dementia, Home Instead regularly sees families at a loss when they see the health of their loved ones deteriorate. They don't know how to get a dementia diagnosis, if they are entitled to financial support, how they can help alleviate the symptoms, what their care options are, and what support is available in the local community. The Key To Care sessions will give people the chance to ask any questions they have.
Home Instead was keen to host the sessions at The Grove Medical Centre, a place where dementia diagnoses are made, to point families in the direction of local organisations which can provide support moving forwards. Nobody should feel like they need to make the journey alone.
The first session will take place on Wednesday 12th July between 10am and midday, with the following sessions taking place on the second Wednesday of every month.
Joanna McCall, general manager of Home Instead Ipswich, Felixstowe and Woodbridge, says: "When families get in touch with us, they have so many questions about a range of things, from how to communicate properly with somebody living with dementia, to the community groups that are out there. Sadly, it's rare that all that information is all in one place, so we're delighted to give families a one-stop shop of knowledge.
"Come and pay us a visit at The Grove Medical Centre. Whatever situation you're in we can guarantee that we have helped others facing similar challenges and we can help you too. The time you spend with your older loved ones should be positive and as stress-free as possible. We'll help you achieve that."
Kate Bloomfield, practice manager at The Grove added: "Everyone at The Grove is looking forward to working closely with Wendy at Home Instead to help provide this free drop-in service which is open to all, not just the patients of The Grove Medical Centre. We are sure that this support will be greatly received by many."
