Friday's fascinating fact:

You might think that the time for growing things is over, but actually autumn is in many ways just as good as spring. It is the season for planting bulbs (by October, except tulips in November), sowing lawns and wildflower meadows, and getting ready to plant bare-rooted trees, shrubs and roses.

Sunrise: 06:29

Sunset: 19:11

Tide Times

18:27 0.8m

13:09 4.04m

18:56 0:41m

Weather:

Warmer again Friday with sunny spells. Warm and increasingly humid Saturday with a chance of organised thundery showers later.

Orwell Bridge: Open

Joke of the day:

What type of vehicle should you use for a harvest hayride?

An autumn-mobile.

Friday's fascinating fact:

Dahlias are deemed the perfect September plant. These tender tubers generally bloom about two months so ideal for flower shows in early to mid-September. These flowers have been bred to bloom in all sizes and with shapes that include spiky, pincushion and more daisy-like petals.

Sunrise: 06:06

Sunset: 19:43

Tide Times

01:16 4.61m

18:57 0.45m

13:31 4.47m

19:33 0:08m

Weather:

A cloudy start, but dry for most. Cloud breaking by early afternoon, with sunny spells and scattered showers developing. The odd heavier shower is possible. Feeling warm in sunshine. Maximum Temperature 24C.

Orwell Bridge: Open

Joke of the day:

I find I can carry large sacks of dahlia tubers with ease, although the eerie glow they emit is somewhat off putting.

They must be light bulbs.
