A FINAL decision is due on plans to build new sports facilities at the site of a former school.

East Suffolk's planning committee members will be considering the council's own final plans for the former Felixstowe International College site, in Garrison Lane, next Tuesday (27 May).

If approved, the existing sports hall would be redeveloped to provide an indoor bowls facility, while a cricket pitch with a pavilion would be sited on the old playing fields.

Outline permission for the sports facilities was granted in 2021, alongside full consent for 65 homes and the conversion of the assembly hall into a community space.

The site was previously used by the college as well as Deben school, before both moved to new premises in Maybush Lane and Walton, respectively.

If approved, the bowls club would likely be open between 9am and 10.30pm, Monday to Friday, and between 10am and 9pm at weekends, with the option for it to be let out for private functions.

Felixstowe Town Council submitted a representation in favour of the plans.

The residential part of the project is currently being built and will border the rocket pitch to the east.
