Felixstowe & Walton youth coach Jeff Hay wants to be the keepy uppy king by bouncing a football 1,000 times a day for the whole of February in memory of his great grandad.
Power worker Jeff is hoping to raise £1,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund for bowel cancer research by taking up their challenge to complete as many keepy uppys as possible in the 29 day month.
Despite having undergone four knee operations in five years, the determined UK Power Networks employee has been training in the gym to strengthen his legs.
He's also got the full backing of the team he coaches, Felixstowe and Walton Under 16s team, which includes his son Evan.
On the day of his 36th birthday, February 1st, Jeff will start bouncing the ball off any part of his body, except his hands or arms, for as long as possible.
"I lost my great grandad to bowel cancer and I have wanted to do something worthwhile for a long time and then I saw the challenge and thought I will go out and do this," said Jeff My wife Sarah says I'm mad but I'm excited."
He reckons he can keep the ball bouncing for 100 keepy uppys at a time and plans to do this before and after his work shifts dispatching engineers, and during his lunch breaks..
Jeff is a Plymouth Argyle fan, like the rest of his mum's family, but is willing to wear other team shirts if people sponsor him to do that.
Making the challenge tougher Jeff will enjoy a birthday weekend away in Dublin during the month and plans to buy a football as soon as he lands so he can keep up the challenge.
He said: "We all know someone or their family who have had cancer or are going through it and we can all do more. I want to raise money and awareness by doing this."
