Felixstowe woman demanded £3,000 from lorry driver or would tell his girlfriend they had sex

Local News by Derek Davis 12th May 2021

A Felixstowe woman has been handed a suspended jail sentence after admitting threatening to expose their sexual relationship if he did not send her £3,000.

Nichola Chatfield, of Larkhill Way, Felixstowe, had also told the victim she would tell the police he had raped her.

Ipswich Crown Court heard how Chatfield, 43, had also called a radio station alleging he was a rapist and told the driver she would tell his girlfriend that they had intercourse.

Chatfield admitted sending a threatening electronic message with intent to cause alarm or anxiety in October 2019, and was sentenced to a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months, and a three-month curfew, at Ipswich Crown Court.

Judge David Pugh also banned her from contacting the victim for five years.

Simon Gladwell, mitigating, told the court that Chatfield had mental health and drug issues.

Emma Nash, prosecuting, outlined how Chatfield and the victim met through Facebook and had travelled to Scotland on two occasions in 2019 and had sex.
