Felixstowe, Trimley and Walton are set for a major boost to their high street businesses after the Government announced a massive nationwide fund.
The Government is making £50 million available across the UK to support local shops in getting back trading safely.
East Suffolk Council has been allocated nearly a quarter--of-a-million pounds from the pot, and the Felixstowe area will be pushing and for an allocation of that.
This is new money announced today, with the district council's pot is £222,198 and there is only a matter of days until the Government look to start re-opening businesses in a phased way.
Whatever Felixstowe receives will be welcome as many smaller businesses on in the town centre, and the main shopping ares areas in the Trimley and Walton have been closed to customers right through the restrictions, which began in March.
Today's (Sunday's) announcement says the money is coming from the European Regional Development Fund that the Government is making available to councils to support safe re-opening.
High Streets Minister Stephen Clarke said: "As we begin to slowly return to normality, the re-opening of our high streets will be key to kick-starting our economic recovery.
"Many businesses have already introduced creative ways of trading such as contactless collection or taking orders by instant messaging and shows that they are ready for the challenges ahead."
